Eastern Standard
This weekend brought us to Eastern Standard, an upscale brasserie located in the Hotel Commonwealth in Kenmore Square. The interior of the expansive dining room is beautiful, with its high ceilings, modern bar, and French bistro-style decor. There is also covered outdoor seating available seasonally. The menu offers up a nice selection of American and French fare. We started with Shrimp Cocktail and a Garden Salad, and then moved on to the Hangar Steak and a Cheeseburger for dinner. Everything was very good to excellent. The cheeseburger, served on a tasty brioche bun, was particularly impressive. Service was very good, especially for a crowded Saturday evening. Prices are somewhat expensive, which is on par for the area. We'd definitely recommend it though, and we are likely to head back soon. Warning though - if you head down to Eastern Standard around the time of a Red Sox home game, expect trouble parking, huge boisterous crowds, and perhaps long waits.

Comella's
Recently we ordered some Italian takeout from Comella's Newton, a faily-owned chain with additional establishments in Wellesley and West Roxbury. Comella's is Italian food at its finest, and is primarily a take-out and catering operation. We wanted to try a sampling, so we tried some raviolis, gnocchi, meatballs, and salad. The raviolis, filled with caramelized onions and prosciutto, may have been the best we ever had. The gnocchi and the meatballs were also phenomenal. We will instantly be adding Comella's to our regular rotation. The prices are very good for the quality, and the take out service was fast and friendly.

Typhoon Asian Bistro

Boston100 recently visited Typhoon Asian Bistro, a Back Bay eatery offering a blend of Japanese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisines. The atmosphere is pretty hip, with a cool linear decor accented by black and red color schemes. The menu is fairly extensive with its Pan-Asian offerings. We opted for a sampling of many of the items off of the menu, including a Sashimi Sampler and some additional yellow tail sashimi to start off. We also tried the Ting Ting Shrimp, Orange Chicken, and Sweet & Sour Chicken. We enjoyed every item, especially the shrimp dish, which was loaded with at least 10 good size shrimps. The service was excellent, especially for a large group. The price tag is a little high for an Asian restaurant, but a good bargain if you consider the neighboring Back Bay restaurant prices. Altogether, we had a very good experience and will definitely return.
